Dwyane Wade Wants Payment For The Olympics And Everything Else

Dwyane Wade said yesterday that he thinks “guys should be compensated” for playing basketball in the Olympic games. ”It’s a lot of things you do for the Olympics–a lot of jerseys you sell,” Wade said after the Heat’s practice on Wednesday. “We play the whole summer. I do think guys should be compensated. Just like I think college players should be compensated as well. Unfortunately, it’s not there. but I think it should be something, you know, there for it.”

Say what? let us step onto a soapbox: we happen to think that it would be a tremendous honor to represent the country (and travel the world on the U.S. Olympic Committee’s dollar!) along with a crew of other well-compensated NBA players. Also, how about the opportunity to do this to a 7-foot-2 French guy while wearing a USA jersey? Did these guys get paid?

Sure, it’s a time obligation, but if a player truly requires rest, he shouldn’t go. let the young ones do it. but apparently wearing the nation’s colors, which he’s set to do in this summer’s games in London, isn’t enough for Wade. Money. interestingly, a very well-placed source of ours in the Heat locker room told us that not only does Wade want the USA ballers to collect a check for their hardship, he wants to get paid for a lot of things that you totally won’t expect. Western Mass. has MegaMillions Mania

REGION (WGGB) – You may have already heard. MegaMillions is at a record high $640 million. This jackpot does have tickets being bought at a brisk pace and people dreaming big.

Even with the odds against them, the legendary jackpot has people dreaming of what could be.

People coming in and out of the Country Trading Post in Chicopee have been buying tickets in all kinds of amounts from $5 to $500.

Business at the Trading Post has been brisk over the past few days of what they would do with all that money.

“It’s been rather insane. It’s just been like we have never seen before. It’s just been crazy,” says Country Trading Post owner Carl Roy.

Crazy though is to be expected when the MegaMillions jackpot reaches record levels.

Cashier Buffy Lariviere says, “It’s been fun. Everybody’s been good. All the customers are excited and they dream a little bit.”

The world’s largest jackpot is creating a frenzy nationwide.

People in western Massachusetts have differing opinions on what to do with the potential winnings.

“If I won, the first thing I would do….I would take me and my daughter on vacation…and probably get a lawyer,” says Nathan Windoloski of Chicopee.

Peter Cote of Chicopee says, “Well, I’d put some into my retirement. Share it with my family, and probably end up donating some to charity.”

At the start of the day, the jackpot was at $540 million. By noon, $640 million.

What about the women behind the counter? What would happen if they took home all that money.

“I guess I would disappear for a little while. I have a dear friend getting married tomorrow, so they’ll get a better present than they were originally going to get.

These women have seen it all this week. From people spending $50 to people reserving their tickets in case no one wins Friday.

“You want five?”

“For tonight, next Tuesday and Friday. I’m leaving for the Carolinas. I don’t want to miss it.”

The astronomical odds against winning certainly aren’t scaring anyone off.

“Well, I believe it was 175 million to 1? I got a shot. I just didn’t want to be the last guy that was left out and didn’t play,” says Christopher Maddock of South Deerfield.

Right now, the estimated jackpot is $640 million dollars, but the Mass. Lottery Commission says that that number could rise again once the final tickets are counted tonight.

In case you’re curious, if you take the lump sum option, it equals out to roughly $452 million.

There are 356 million reasons to play Mega Millions right now, and Southern Nevada residents are flocking across state lines to buy their tickets for the big jackpot.

“Do you have your Mega Millions tickets?”

It's the question of the day at Rosie's Den in White Hills, Ariz., where lottery tickets are coming hot off the presses.

The massive jackpot figure earned a few ooh's and ahh's Sunday afternoon.

And it's enough to send people from the middle of Clark County out to Arizona and Primm for one big reason.

“Because I want to win some money!” exclaimed Las Vegas resident Cecilia Dixon.

Even as gasoline prices creep toward $4 a gallon, it's worth the 40 mile drive to Primm, or 50 miles to White Hills.

“I figure it just takes a dollar to win. if you're lucky, you're lucky,” said William Parnell.

The lines at the Primm Valley Lotto Store stretched out the door, as the prospect of $356 million had many players thinking about what they'd do with all that money.

“Pay off the house… Money for the kids for college,” explained Albert Viramontes.

The odds are more than 175 million to one, but one Las Vegas resident told FOX5 it is fun to play because it is an exercise in fantasy.

For the stores like Rosie's Den, each printed ticket could be the big winner.

“I have two machines. I would love to fire up the other one,” said Sheila Larson, who was hoping for bigger crowds at her store.

It is the biggest Mega Millions jackpot since the restaurant at Rosie's Den burned down last year. so, a win would certainly be welcome.

“My goodness, it would be so wonderful if I sold that winning ticket,” Larson said.

And if Ralphe Birkett has his way, that dream is just days away.

“I'm claiming it already. It's already mine,” he said. “It's all right here. so, I'll be back down, and you can interview me then.”

The largest jackpot in Mega Millions history was $390 million. two winners hit that prize in March 2007.

Geraldo Rivera: Hoodie Is As Responsible For Trayvon’s Death As Zimmerman

Geraldo Rivera sent out a tweet at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, saying that Travyon Martin‘s hoodie was responsible for his death.

Rivera tweeted, “His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman.”

On Fox News, Geraldo also said, “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was. You have to recognize that this whole stylizing yourself as a gangsta — you’re going to be a gangsta wannabe, well people are going to perceive you as a menace. That’s what happens. It is an instant, reflexive action.”

But he didn’t stop there. Oh, yes, it gets worse.

“when you see a Black or Latino, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street to avoid that confrontation. Trayvon Martin, God bless him, an innocent kid, a wonderful kid, a box of Skittles in his hand, he didn’t deserve to die, but I’ll bet you money that if he didn’t have that hoodie on that nutty neighborhood watch guy wouldn’t have responded in that violent and aggressive way.”

So what exactly is Mr. Rivera saying?

That because Trayvon decided to wear a hoodie, he was welcoming a 28-year-old man to hunt him down in his own neighborhood and shoot him to death? Really, Mr. Rivera? I guess he must be a major supporter of “Stop and Frisk,” racial profiling and other forms of discrimination, because in his view, something as simple as a hoodie can mark a law-binding person “dead man walking.”

Or, in Trayvon Martin’s case, a dead 140-pound, 17-year-old boy with iced tea and Skittles walking.

Mr. Rivera must not have been paying attention to the thousands of people worldwide wearing a hoodie in protest of the absurd matter in which Trayvon died. moreover, why is Mr. Rivera focusing his criticism on the victim and not the criminal, George Zimmerman?

Mr. Rivera must really need money because he is no longer relevant. he better hope that Fox News gives him the platform he wants because no dignified news organization with a heart would pay for his ignorant perspective on race relations in this country.

JJ Hickson Not Happy in Sacramento; Misses Cleveland

JJ Hickson was traded from the Cavs to the Kings last season, and things aren’t exactly working out for him in Sac-Town. He tells the Plain Dealer that he wouldn’t mind returning to Cleveland next year: “The former Cavalier forward was at The Q with his new team and sounded like a player who would rather be almost anywhere except Sacramento. Even Anaheim. Hickson is struggling to adjust to a new team and a return to his natural position of power forward. He is averaging 5.2 points and less than 20 minutes a game all the while costing himself significant money in a contract year. ‘I’m not having the year I wanted to have, not just personally but we’re not winning,’ said Hickson, an unrestricted free agent as season’s end. ‘but after going through the season [the Cavs] went through last year, I didn’t want to come to a situation like this. I wanted to rebuild here, but I got traded and things happen.’ The Cavaliers shipped Hickson to the Kings for Omri Casspi and a much-protected, first-round draft choice on June 30, 2011. they no longer needed to worry about whether to commit long-term to Hickson, who averaged 13.8 points and 8.7 rebounds last season, but irritated coaches with his mental lapses and inconsistency. Hickson said he was surprised by the trade, even though the Cavaliers selected power forward Tristan Thompson with the no. 4 overall pick a week earlier. [...] At the Kings’ media day in December, Hickson asked whether rumors about the team moving to Anaheim were true. He was heard to say, ‘I really like Anaheim.’ Hickson was asked if he could make it work with the Kings’ organization. after a pregnant pause, he responded: ‘Uh, yeah. I think so, yeah.’ [...] would Hickson want to return to the Cavs next season? ‘of course, why not?’ he said. ‘I’m not saying ‘no, I don’t want to come back.’ If the opportunity presented itself, why not?’”
