Katy Perry The singer's new single was written to close the chapter of Perry's current music.

Katy Perry is ready to leave her Teenage Dreams album behind and thinks new single Wide Awake is the perfect end to her campaign.

The singer say she wrote the song purposely with the intention of using it to close the chapter on the album, and it is used in the closing credits of her concert film Part of Me.

She told MTV, “I love this song so much. It was a song that I hadn’t written for Teenage Dream. I was doing this movie and they asked me if I wanted to write an end-title song for the movie and I was like, ‘I know exactly what I want to say’. “I was really kind of dying to write another song at that point. I didn’t want to wait until I did a whole new record, and it’s kind of the perfect last word of me at this moment.”

The music video to accompany the single will be premiered on 19th June, while the single itself will be out on 2nd July.

Part of Me is released in cinemas on the 5th July.
