Melbourne Cup Cruise Cancelled
The Pacific Jewel which is the ship that makes the Melbourne Cup Cruise what it is, has been forced to be temporarily withdrawn from service. This temporary withdraw from service has meant that the company P&O Cruises has had to cancel its yearly Melbourne Cup Cruise.
P&O Cruises has told the public that the Pacific Jewel has a rare technical fault. This rare technical fault has occurred in the ship’s propulsion system. the ship’s propulsion system is what drives the ship through the water. without a working propulsion system, the ship will not be able to move properly.
The Melbourne Cup Cruise which starts from Sydney has been officially cancelled and affected passengers have been offered a full refund and a formal apology. Future cruise credits have also been handed out to those affected as a gesture of goodwill. the company deeply regrets the cancellation and wants to let its passengers know that they are very sorry and will rectify the problem as soon as possible and ready the ship for the 2011 journey.
The cruise was scheduled to start on October the 30th and get people to Melbourne in time for the race that stops a nation. P&O Cruises has confirmed that staff will be at Flemington Racecourse next Tuesday to hand out entry tickets to those affected by the cancelled cruise.
Another 14-night cruise which was supposed to happen on November the 13th has also been cancelled. the cruise was to depart from Sydney and head to Fiji. Passengers affected by this cancellation will also be compensated and given a formal apology along with future cruise credits.
The ship’s propulsion system problem was considered extremely rare because the parts that were affected were expected to last a life time. A partial repair was considered but in the best interests of passenger safety and security, P&O Cruises decided to let the ship undergo a full repair. A full repair would mean that the ship should be ready for next year’s Melbourne Cup Cruise.
P&O Cruises Australia is a British-American owned cruise line. Their headquarters are located in Southampton over in the United Kingdom. Their fleets consists of three ships. They are called Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Sun. there is another ship in the works called Pacific Pearl that is due to enter service in December this year.
In conclusion, the cancellation of the Melbourne Cup Cruise has meant that there will be some unhappy people who have to reschedule their plans and make new arrangements.
