ALLEN PARK — two running backs, two stories and neither is a positive for the Detroit Lions.First, Jerome Harrison, who the Lions tried to trade to the Eagles for Ronnie Brown on Tuesday, failed the physical because of a brain tumor according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.Finding the tumor could have saved his life, per Schefter. The team would not comment on his condition at all. He was still on the 53-man roster Thursday afternoon.“That’s a tough situation, not exactly sure what happened, our prayers are with him that’s for sure,’’ running back Maurice Morris said.Players were instructed not to talk about Harrison’s condition.Starting running back Jahvid best didn’t practice again due to the concussion he suffered Sunday. It’s his second concussion in less than three months. He also had a serious concussion at the end of his college career.a report by MIke Freeman of CBSsports.com said that Best’s people want him to sit out the rest of the season because of health concerns. The Lions would not address that either.but offensive coordinator Scott Linehan expects him back this season.“oh certainly, I wouldn’t see any other reason unless anyone tells me otherwise,’’ Linehan said.He said he doesn’t have concerns about Best’s long-term career.“He’s a young player, guys miss some time during the course of the season. I don’t have any concerns, I’m sure he’ll be out there soon,’’ Linehan said. “He’s going to have a long, great career for us.’’However, it’s highly unlikely he will play on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.Maurice Morris, who has played sparingly this season, will get the start at running back.“The thing I’m excited about whenever you called on Maurice he stepped up to the plate and performed,’’ Linehan said. “I think he’s healthy now. He missed really all of training camp and the first couple games he was coming back from that (broken) hand. … Now I think he’s 100 percent past that and back to his form of end of last year.“You know what you’re getting with Mo I’m looking forward to seeing him take the reins,’’ Linehan said.in the 2010 season he had 90 carries for 336 yards and five rushing touchdowns along with 27 catches for 287 yards and 1 receiving score.his big game last year was in the overtime win at Tampa Bay when he had 15 runs for 109 yards and one touchdown along with three catches for 10 yards.“That’s way I approach life in general, just go out there and work hard and you know do whatever you can to help the team win,’’ Morris said. “That’s what I’ve been doing my whole career.’’Morris was called on often last season while best was struggling with an injured toe.“I know what Mo can do, he’s a veteran, he runs hard — he ran hard last week his two carries he ran hard,’’ center Dominic Raiola said. “He had a big game in Tampa last year. I know he can carry the load, he’s as tough as hell, I’m excited to have him back there.’’The Lions worked out a couple running backs on Thursday. The trade deadline was Tuesday, so their only option is to sign a free agent.

Eagles trade backs with Lions

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles traded running back Ronnie Brown to the Detroit Lions for running back Jerome Harrison and an undisclosed draft pick in 2013.

Harrison is starting his second stint with the Eagles. He was first acquired in a 2010 trade with Cleveland and rushed for 239 yards and a touchdown.

“I didn’t know if somebody was playing or not, but then once I realized it was serious, I was like ‘cool,’ you know, play for a great coach, great organization,” Harrison said. “I’m excited to be back. The week off will be huge to get back in the playbook and start hearing the terminology again. I have been checking out the Eagles to see how LeSean is doing and he’s doing great. I’m excited to be back.”

Brown had only 13 carries for 38 yards with the Eagles. his fumble against San Francisco cost Philadelphia a win.

“We’re excited to reacquire Jerome Harrison and add another draft pick in 2013,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. “Jerome had a lot of success in Philadelphia last season, and he adds another back to the LeSean McCoy and Dion Lewis contingent. … Jerome fits a zone scheme. He has good vision, instincts, runs downhill, and has quick feet. He’s a great character guy and will do whatever we ask him to do. He can catch the football. We’re really excited about him joining LeSean McCoy and Dion Lewis.”

Harrison had only 14 carries for 41 yards with the Lions. In 2009, Harrison led the Browns with 194 carries for 862 yards and five touchdowns, and tied for the team lead with 34 receptions for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Both running backs have fallen out of favor with their teams and had little playing time.
