In yet another AMERICAN IDOL shocker, Jesus-loving alt-rocker Colton Dixon was sent packing last nght after failing to impress the judges (and America) with his interpretation of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
“I apologize. I wasn’t myself last night, and I get it,” the 20 year-old admitted. “I appreciate what you told me last night. I’ll take that when I’m making a record. And I’ll choose songs [that are right for me].”
Colton — a fan favorite with his skinny pants and lion’s mane haircut — might not have had what it take to win the competition (Phillip Phillips will do that), but many viewers were surprised to see him kicked to the curb before struggling Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanaugh. (Elise and Hollie rounded out the bottom three.)
Colton, who previously appeared on season six, may have lost some public support by being so vocal about his faith — despite warning from the show’s producers.
“When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets,” he told TODAY.com. ”Just because it can turn off voters or whatever. But, you know, being a Christian is who I am. It is a part of me musically. It is what I want to do after the show — go into Christian music.”
And now he has a chance to do that.
